Song of the Cicada
2021

Honor Fraser Gallery, Los Angeles
July 17 - August 28, 2021
Featuring Rebecca Bruno, veronique d’entremont, Joel Garcia, iris yirei hu, Beatriz Jaramillo, Nova Jiang, Elana Mann, Britt Ransom and Debra Scacco.

Song of the Cicada examines conscious reemergence. Named for the Brood X cicada who hatched by the billions in 2021, Song of the Cicada questions our purpose and intention on this planet. When these cicadas emerge after 17 years underground, they shed their exoskeleton to reveal a tender and vulnerable body. They physically release a ghost of their former selves to fulfill their purpose. This exhibition discusses how we arrived at this moment, as well as ways we may imagine new futures together.

Sony Pictures

2019

A collaboration with Sony Pictures, Cycles presented the work of three climate-related artists on the Sony Pictures lot. Works by Amabelle Aguiluz, Nancy Baker Cahill and Jenny Yurshansky explored how climate-related deterioration of natural systems has an ongoing impact on human relationships with the natural world, and sought to increase our understanding of nature's complex web that sustains healthy ecological cycles. Works were accompanied by a call to action, encouraging staff and visitors to make small ecological changes that collectively result in significant impact.
