The Air residency seeds climate-focused artists in spaces of research, innovation, entrepreneurship and advocacy. We facilitate thought partnerships that benefit both artist and organization through the introduction of new models of research, perception and process; and allowing entry points to ideas that can be challenging, overwhelming or simply not known.
Since 2017, Air has worked in deep collaboration with Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), a private non-profit in the Arts District of Los Angeles dedicated to building an inclusive green economy. This leading cleantech hub houses leaders in climate innovation and a $10M+ Advanced Prototyping Center (APC), featuring water jet, laser cutters, a metal shop and more. Artists were provided with a stipend, research support, and training and access to leading production technology.
The residency is currently shapeshifting, with networks expanding to seed artists in partnership with thought leaders at multiple organizations simultaneously. Our collaboration with LACI reached a natural conclusion with our 2020 artist cohort who completed a virtual research residency, and whose APC residency is extended through 2022 due to COVID.
